PhD, is the Senior Scholar in Public Work Philosophy at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, MN, and is co-founding the Institute for Public Life and Work. He founded and for 20 years directed the Center for Democracy and Citizenship at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs. He also established the youth civic education initiative, Public Achievement, which has spread to dozens of communities in the US and more than twenty countries. As a young man, Boyte worked as a field secretary for Dr. Martin Luther King and organized poor whites in Durham, NC. He is the author of eleven books, most recently Awakening Democracy through Public Work: Pedagogies of Empowerment.
