Sławomira Żerańska-Kominek holds a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Warsaw (1976) and was appointed full professor in 1992. Her research interests encompass the theory and analysis of traditional music, mythology and religion in relation to music, music iconography, the theory of non-European historiographies of music, word-music relationships in Polish art songs, Arab music theory, Central Asian music, and theoretical issues in the anthropology of music. Her major publications include: Music in Culture (1995); Crazy Harman: The Concept of Music and Musician in the Türkmen Epic Tale, Harman Däli (with Arnold Lebeuf, 1998); The Orpheus Myth: Inspirations and Reinterpretations in European Artistic Tradition (2003); Music in the Garden: Garden in Music (2010); Musical Children of Venus and Other Essays in the Anthropology of Music (2014); and Nationality vs. Universality: Musical Historiographies in Central and Eastern Europe (2016).
